The Clowns |
Flossy Pot |
PROFILE Anne Hardeman-Jones (Flossy Pot) I was born in Melbourne. I am one of five children, with three brothers one of whom is my twin. I have always been a romantic. Mum would say' "Anne's smelling the flowers again." So it was no surprise to the family that I enjoyed both the Theatre and the creative arts. After singing lessons with Gwyneth Harris I dabbled in several musical comedies and eventually took a starring role in Viva La Mexico as Raquelita. I have two very talented daughters and now have two grand-daughters also showing signs of wanting to tread the boards. When I spotted the advertisement for the Coastal Caring Clowns' workshop I immediately knew that this was my chance to take on a challenge that I would enjoy, reaching out to people through colour, fun and a smile. I have already been active in various charity groups over the years such as, Ladies Inner Wheel (Hobart) and participated in various volunteer programmes, including the Peer Educator's, (sponsored by the Department of Health and Community Services). I have been involved in the fashion and beauty industry for a long time, including work as a freelance model for Norma Tullo and various magazines, and a house model for Arnald Edson Fashions. I undertook training in the use of colour and wardrobing and make up artistry at Fernand Albury Institute in Paris. I used this knowledge to train staff at Myer Melbourne, Trimex, Clarins and Diamaru in presentation skills. I later opened my own Beauty Therapy Salon, and developed a program of deportment, grooming and empowerment for women, which has been presented at TAFE in Victoria and Tasmania, and various Community Centres. I have a Level IV Accreditation Training Certificate with A.N.T.A. through TAFE, and in 2003 I implemented a Self Esteem and Positive Outlook programme to help the long term unemployed obtain work. I also completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts, at the University of Tasmania, in 2006. (In 2005 UTas awarded me a Scholarship to attend a Shanghai University, for a five week Asian Languages and Art Studies program). I and my husband, Kevin, have firmly settled on the Sunshine Coast, enjoying the lovely weather and relaxed lifestyle. I now intend to re-establish my art work practice and eventually exhibit my work again. Much of my back-ground has enabled me to don the persona of "Flossy Pot" the clown. My main focus is learning to juggle and develop my puppets "Esmeralda" and "Ginger Red". I have found it very rewarding visiting hospital patients and the residents of nursing homes, to see their faces light up and give a smile in return. The camaraderie and help from the other clowns makes us a very happy and fun-filled group. I have accepted the role of Activities Officer even though I am still a learner clown. |
