Coastal Caring Clowns Inc is the only organization in Queensland who trains volunteers in the art of hospital clowning. The training is based on Clown Ethics, Hospital Visit Guidelines, Aged Care Visit Guidelines and more than eighteen years of clown volunteering experience. Regular meetings, workshops and Lead Clown Mentoring are part of the training.
About UsSince 2001 our members have regularly visited hospitals, nursing homes, respite care centers and have participated in a variety of community events from Caloundra to Noosa and into the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
Caring clowning can involve anything from singing a song, giving a hug, or performing some clown-like silliness to move someone into a moment of well-being and caring in a light-hearten and heart-felt way. We meet monthly to share experiences and learn. We occasionally have a guest speaker. Coastal Caring Clowns has held workshops to recruit new active clown members. Otherwise we receive inquiries from people who has seen us, have heard of us through the media or were told by friends. We assist new clowns to learn the process, practice and ethics of being caring clowns. |

The Objectives
|
The objectives and purpose of Coastal Caring Clowns are: "to promote and encourage the arts of
clowning to bring caring, happiness and inspiration to the community, particularly through visits to hospitals, respite centers, nursing homes and similar, and by partaking in other events." |
Our History
|
CCC was informally established in 2001by Barbara Brewster and was incorporated under the Queensland Associations Incorporation Act 1981 in July 2001. Barbara was a Caring Clown in Oregon, USA, who had traveled for a month in Russia with a troop of about 30 clowns under the direction and supervision of Patch Adams in the 1990's. Barbara chose to come and live on the Sunshine Coast, Australia. She ran two Clowning Workshops from which the group was formed with half a dozen or so members. Barbara has now moved on to other things, in recognition of her role with Coastal Caring Clowns, she was made a Life Member in 2005.
